From Delay the Disease to yoga for balance, these classes help support healthy aging
Movement is key to a healthy life at any age. Join other Columbus residents for these individual classes and series designed for mature exercises (beginners included!) at the OhioHealth Gerlach Center for Senior Health.
Classes are $2 for AdvantAge Members, and $4 for non-members for most classes.
1. Breathing, Laughing and Other Good Things
Thursdays 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This class is designed with exercises to improve your breathing and lung health along with laughter yoga to improve your mood. A series of gentle breathing, moving and laughter exercises with an experienced respiratory therapist from the The Breathing Association. No mats or experience needed.
2. Balance™ Yoga I
Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A gentle workout that focuses on natural alignment to decrease aches and pains. Gentle stretching.
3. OhioHealth Delay the Disease™: Basic Level
Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m.
This program is designed for people with Parkinson’s who are able to walk but may need a cane or walker for assistance. This program offers hope, functional mobility, and restores independence. Free to all. Pre-registration required. Call (614) 566.1189.
4. OhioHealth Delay the Disease™: Chair Level
Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This class is designed for people with Parkinson’s who struggle to walk unassisted and demonstrate balance difficulties. This class is performed mostly in a seated position. Free to all. Pre-registration required. Call (614) 566.1189.
5. Gentle Aerobics for Strength and Lung Expansion
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m.
An aerobics and strength class for those who want to begin or maintain a fitness program (with physician approval).
6. Tai Chi (Qigong)
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
A class to improve movement and flexibility using slow, controlled and low-impact exercises.
