7 Columbus Rainy Day Activities

From the Children’s Theatre to the Museum of Art, we share the best indoor activities in Columbus — no matter the weather.

Though summer showers are over, we’re still bound to get a few inches of monthly rainfall this fall. Whether it’s a gloomy weekend or rainy day after school, these are the indoor activities in Columbus that your kids are sure to remember.

1. Columbus Children’s Theatre

The Columbus Children’s Theatre, located on Park Street, will delight both kids and parents alike. This fall, choose from Goodnight Moon and Sleepy Hollow: A Musical Tale.
The theater also offers classes and one-day workshops for aspiring performers of all ages, making it the perfect indoor activity for unexpected rainy days.

2. Columbus Museum of Art

Stop by the Columbus Museum of Art (CMOA) to check out the world’s largest collection of works by local artists like George Bellow and Elijah Pierce, as well as a variety of contemporary art, folk art, photography, and glass. Tour the museum on your own time or take part in one of the many different CMOA events and programs hosted there.

3. Franklin Park Conservatory

Antsy kids? Take them to the Franklin Park Conservatory, where they’ll feel like they’re outside among some of the city’s most beautiful flora.

4. Columbus Blue Jackets Game

Starting in October, Nationwide Arena may become your go-to rainy day spot. Sure, you won’t escape the cold, but you’re bound to catch a great hockey game! The Columbus Blue Jackets offer single-game tickets, group tickets and suite rentals, as well as a variety of specials for different occasions. Every game is jam packed with excitement the entire family will love.

5. Center Of Science and Industry (COSI) 

The center of science and industry also known as COSI has plenty of exhibits for parents and children alike. COSI has combined science, with fun for many to enjoy with a little over 300 exhibits to enjoy. Located next to Columbus’ Scioto Mile, COSI sits near the downtown core and the Ohio Statehouse.

6. North Market 

Hungry for a bite to eat? North Market located in downtown Columbus has been central Ohio’s marketplace since 1876. This vibrant marketplace is filled with Ohio’s finest merchants, farmers, and makers of all different cultures. Take the family to eat, drink, and shop with the market’s variety of cultures. 

7. Columbus Metropolitan Library 

A rainy day can be educational one too. There are over 23 locations in Columbus for families of all ages to enjoy. Columbus Metropolitan has a variety of programs and activities aimed to inspire more reading. Explore the Columbus library with your family.
