Central Ohio Support Groups for Caregivers

You support your loved one — now learn where you can get support, too

Caregiving is no easy task. And while you may spend your days (and nights) making sure your loved one is well cared for, practicing self-care is essential. Here’s where to turn for the support you need.

Caregiver/ carepartner support groups

These support group meetings are held both in person and virtually. You can contact the Dempsey Center for login information or to register. Registration is requested for in-person meetings but is not required.

Virtual caregiver series

This virtual caregiver series, planned in conjunction with the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, will cover four topics over the coming year. They will all be held virtually via Zoom from 2-3 PM. This way, all caregivers can join, even if they are caring for their loved ones.

Planning ahead

  • April 8, 2025
This meeting will discuss how to have those difficult conversations about caregiving. Topics include important documents, paying for care with Medicare and Medicaid, housing choices, and navigating after a death.

Dementia

  • June 17, 2025
This meeting will focus on the ins and outs of dementia. You will learn more about what it is and what it isn’t, as well as how to support someone living with dementia or help a caregiver for someone with dementia.

Preventing caregiver burnout

  • October 2, 2025
Caregivers work hard, and burnout can creep up if they’re not careful. It’s important to take care of your own health too. In this meeting, you will discuss common signs of burnout and strategies for treating and preventing burnout.

Caregiving over the holidays

  • December 11, 2025
Holidays are stressful in general, without the added stress of being a caregiver. This talk will discuss dealing with common family dynamics and challenging care situations.
