Tips for Creating the Best Baby Shower Registry

Putting together a baby shower registry can be overwhelming, especially if this is your first baby. There are so many options to choose from and it can be hard to determine exactly what you need. We’ve put together a few simple tips to help you create the most efficient and comprehensive registry before your shower.

Go with Needs Over Wants

It can be tempting to register for every cute outfit or toy you see in the aisle, but it’s important to focus on things you need before registering for things you want. Identify must-haves, like diaper bags, cribs, bottles or a car seat and prioritize those above other items. Smaller items that you like, such as clothing, can always be easily purchased by you later and will likely be purchased by baby shower attendees anyway.

Involve Your Partner

Don’t go at it alone, bring dad along to help make the registry as comprehensive as possible. He’ll appreciate being involved in the process from the beginning and will bring a different perspective to the table. Working together as a team can ensure that you both think things through and create the best possible list.

Determine Any Immediate Needs

When you’re creating your registry, make sure you’ve determined which items you’ll need as soon as the baby arrives. Those are the most important because you’re much less likely to want to go out and get those things when you’re busy taking care of a newborn. Consider prioritizing things like diapers and bottles over high chairs, which you can easily get later on. This is especially important if you don’t have a lot of room in your home to store things until you need them.

Keep Expensive Items Gender Neutral

If you’re planning to have another baby in the future, consider registering for items like car seats, cribs, changing tables or strollers in a neutral color. This way, you can continue to use it in the future no matter what gender your next baby may be.

Have Fun with It

Don’t forget to make creating your registry something enjoyable. This is an exciting time in your life, so harness that emotion to create the perfect nursery with the items you choose. Don’t let stress get in the way of something that you should enjoy doing.
