Winter Fun in Columbus Without the Cold

Cold weather and freezing temperatures giving you the winter blues and keeping you cooped up in the house? We’ve got just the cure – get out of the cold AND out of the house. Cabin fever got the whole family feeling restless? Pack the car up and hop on over to Sky Zone Columbus to burn off extra energy at the indoor trampoline park. Check out the freestyle jump, dive into the foam zone or even drop in on a game of ultimate dodgeball!

Looking for other physical activities, but already regulars at Skyzone? Stop by Vertical Adventures for some fun on their indoor climbing walls. New to climbing? They offer classes for all expertise and fitness levels!

What do a planetarium, dinosaur gallery, and an ocean exhibit all have in common? You can find them at Columbus’ “center of science,” COSI. Plan a day at COSI for your next family outing — there’s plenty to do. Climb into a submarine at their ocean exhibit, ride a unicycle through the air, grab lunch at the Atomic Café or even catch a show in the National Geographic Giant Screen Theater. Need a creative outlet? Take some snacks, and head over to paint-your-own-pottery studio Clay Cafe in Grandview or Clintonville with the family. You choose from a variety of clay items such as cups or dinnerware, pick your paints and then get started on your masterpiece. Once the paint has dried, you drop your items off at the cart and a week later, VOILA, your item is ready for pick-up. Best part? Clay Café has kids paint free days and adult paint free nights.

Like puzzles? Like cracking riddles? Book an escape game with Breakout Columbus. Choose from a list of adventures such as island escape or mystery mansion, and then you and your family will have just 60 minutes to break out of the room by following the clues. Enjoy an adrenaline-filled hour racing the clock to solve the mystery and “escape the room.”

Visit the Franklin Park Conservatory and experience nature indoors during the winter months. With beautiful gardens and dynamic art exhibits, there’s always something cool happening at the conservatory and you’re sure to be warm exploring the greenhouses and biomes. Did you know that the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) operates eight theatres in downtown Columbus? With so many theatres and so many performing arts groups like the Columbus Symphony, CATCO is Kids, and Broadway in Columbus, there’s plenty of opportunities for a night on the town with your family. See CAPA’s schedule of events and grab tickets to an upcoming show.
