Want to get out of the house for some family fun this winter – but don’t want to spend time out in the cold? We’ve rounded up family activities in Richland County that will help keep you entertained, and take off the chill.
Become a Bookworm
Books have the ability to transport you to somewhere warm and magical – all while sitting still. Spend some time at Main Street Books and find family favorites to read together or a special read for each family member. This locally-owned bookstore offers new and used books guaranteed to help readers of all ages explore their imaginations. Also, check out their calendar of events for upcoming family-friendly activities.
Find Comfort in Coffee and Hot Cocoa
Make a visit to Relax, It’s Just Coffee to warm up with warm drinks like hot cocoa, coffee or tea. Also, check out the bakery, which offers a variety of house-made breads and baked goods, baked fresh every day. Bring along a board game, a deck of cards or books so you can spend time a little extra time together in this cozy space.
Make Memories at the Museum
You’re never too old to learn something new, and learning should be fun! Spend a day at Little Buckeye Children’s Museum to dig for dinosaur bones, explore underground tunnels, learn about the power of magnets, and more!
Take a Spin on a Carrousel
Lions and tigers and bears, oh yeah! Take a spin on one of 52 carved figures when you visit the Richland Carrousel Park. After a few spins, walk away with your favorite souvenir from the gift shop. If you’re hungry, check out the nearby Coney Island Diner.
Get a Birds-Eye View
Want to connect with nature, but not up for a hike in the woods? Fly over to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, home to more than 30 different species of native songbirds and raptors. The indoor visitor center features a small gift shop and a few education animals. Bundle up to view the rest of the birds and the aviary, which are located outdoors.
Splash Around in an Indoor Pool
Swimming and splashing around in the pool is often a favorite summer activity for the family, but you don’t have to give up the splash zone when it’s cold outside. Get wet and wild at Splash Harbor at Comfort Inn, a mini indoor waterpark. Reserve a room to extend your stay. Then, after the family is tired of swimming, rent a movie and relax together back in your room.
Watch Others Hit the Slopes
You don’t have to hit the slopes to enjoy the ski lodge. Head out to Snow Trails, the outdoor destination for skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Skip the slopes and relax in the lodge with hot cocoa while watching the skiers snake down the slopes.
