What Are Common Side Effects of Paxlovid?

Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Disease, names common side effects of Paxlovid for at risk COVID-19 patients.

When we prescribe medications to patients, it’s really a good idea to let them know about the most common side effects. So, if they experience them, it’s less concerning for the patient.

More and more providers are prescribing Paxlovid for at risk individuals with COVID-19. It is important to explain the two most common side effects of Paxlovid to the patient: the first is an unusual or metallic taste, and second, loose stools or diarrhea.

Paxlovid is a five day course. Those side effects are the most commonly reported and do go away after the Paxlovid course ends.
