In a recent fast fact, Joe Gastaldo, MD, OhioHealth system director for Infectious Diseases, discussed COVID medications in the works.
Pfizer and Merck are both working on an antiviral medication. Both products are in phase two and phase three trials and are currently on track to be reviewed by the FDA.
Hopefully, the antiviral medications will be available by the end of the year. People who are symptomatic can be tested in real time, and if they have a positive COVID-19 test, they could be considered for an antiviral medication.
We are still waiting for more details on the specification of these medications.
