Is There a COVID Vaccine for Kids Ages 5+?

Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Disease, gives information on the booster and primary COVID-19 vaccine series for children ages 5 to 11.

The Pfizer COVID vaccine has been available for several months for those aged five to 11-years-old. Unfortunately, based on CDC data, only 30% of individuals in that age group have received the primary series.

Recently, we got FDA emergency use authorization and CDC recommendation for 5 to 11 year olds to receive a single booster at least four months out from the primary series.

The vaccine is safe and effective. Dr. Gastaldo strongly encourages all 5 to 11 year olds to receive it.
