Monkeypox vs COVID: What's the difference?

Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Disease, explains the new virus in the news, monkeypox, and how it spreads compared to COVID.

Compared to COVID-19, monkeypox is nowhere near as transmissible; in fact, some say it’s difficult to catch. 

There must be human to human transmission to get monkeypox. This means prolonged intimate contact with someone who has monkeypox or exposure to their bodily fluids.

Though it is a hardy virus, monkeypox can also be transmitted through contact with personal items, such as bed sheets.
