What Are The Most Common Symptoms Of The Omicron Variant?

The Omicron variant is here, and OhioHealth’s Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Diseases, is discussing the most common symptoms observed so far.

As the variant surges, we continue to learn more about it. On December 10, 2021, the CDC had a MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Rate) publication looking at the first 43 people in the country who were proven to be infected with the Omicron variant. The top four symptoms in those people were cough, fatigue, congestion/runny nose and fever. Only one out of 43 patients had a loss of taste and smell, a prominent symptom with earlier variants.

Moving forward, when observing people with upper respiratory tract symptoms, infection with the Omicron variant is a possibility.
