What Is The Current State Of Influenza In Ohio?

What is the current state of influenza activity in Ohio? Joe Gastaldo, MD System Medical Director for Infectious Diseases at OhioHealth discusses it in this Fast Fact.

Currently, influenza activity in the state of Ohio remains low. However, we are seeing some concerning things in our positivity rate at OhioHealth. Most importantly, we are seeing more Influenza A in our in-house lab testing.

The Ohio Department of Health has only reported 25 confirmed hospitalizations from the flu, so far.

Dr. Gastaldo says the one concerning thing he sees in the CDC information for influenza is that the predominant strain of influenza A circulating is H3N2. He explains that when we see more H3N2, that usually signifies the inpatient influenza census may be high.
