Who Can Get a Monkeypox Vaccine?

In this Fast Fact video, Joe Gastaldo, MD, OhioHealth System Medical Director for Infectious Diseases, shares what you need to know about the monkeypox vaccine.

The available monkeypox vaccine goes by the trade name Jynneos. Unfortunately, Jynneos supply is rather tight at the moment, meaning that the demand far outweighs the supply. For people to get the Jynneos vaccine, they either have to be identified through contact tracing as having a higher risk exposure, or they have to be in an at risk category, such as somebody who was living with HIV, immunocompromised or has a higher risk of contracting the virus.

The FDA recently announced that the Jynneos vaccine can be given at a lower dose through an intradermal injection. What that really means is, that through giving a lower dose we will likely have more vaccines available to give to at risk individuals.
