Will There Be an Omicron-Specific Vaccine?

The recent COVID-19 surge has left people questioning whether we’ll need an Omicron-specific booster. Joe Gastaldo, MD System Medical Director for Infectious Diseases, discusses just that in a recent fast fact video.

Will we get an Omicron specific vaccine? Pfizer and Moderna are working on Omicron specific vaccine. However, it is to be determined whether we will need one or not.

With a vaccine, the current vaccines we have provide a great layer of protection against the Omicron variant. Dr. Gastaldo does not advise anyone to wait for an Omicron booster – especially because one doesn’t exist yet.

We want everyone to be up to date on their vaccines, and if you are eligible for it, you should get one. This will give you the best layer of protection against infection with the Omicron variant.
